CELL is excited to share that one of our founding directors has been appointed to the BC Supreme Court. Maegen Giltrow, K.C. played a key role in establishing CELL eight years ago, and has served on CELL’s executive ever since.
Her appointment to the BCSC (Vancouver) was announced by Canada’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice on February 28, 2024.
Justice Giltrow distinguished herself in Aboriginal rights and title litigation, as well as regulatory and judicial review work for landowners, farmers, and local governments. Prior to her appointment, she was a partner at Ratcliff LLP in North Vancouver where she led the firm’s Indigenous Law Group. She was lead counsel on a number of important Aboriginal and treaty rights trials, appeals, and judicial reviews including Thomas v. Rio Tinto Alcan Inc., 2022 BCSC 15, 2024 BCCA 62 and Yahey v. British Columbia, 2021 BCSC 1287.
From its earliest days, Justice Giltrow was a strong supporter of CELL and its mandate to provide inspiration, mentoring, and training to Canada’s next generation of public interest environmental litigators. She always generously gave her time to the program, and these contributions and her career will continue to inspire CELL students in years to come.
The entire CELL team congratulates Justice Giltrow on her appointment!
